Pizza with a Cajun twist

If you’re in Lafayette and you haven’t been to Dean-O’s pizza, what in the hell are you waiting for? You’ve never had pizza like this before. Ever.

Let me try to explain Dean-O’s to the uninitiated: Take pizza baked in a wood fired oven with a thin, crispy crust, give it a Cajun spin and you’ll end up with Dean-O’s.

I’d say their hallmark is their incredibly creative toppings which give their pizzas an edge on any other restaurant in Lafayette. Have you ever had crab, shrimp or crawfish on pizza? Yes, it may sound strange, but trust me – Deano’s does and they pull it off…and it’s delicious!

I can honestly say that whenever I’m home – I make a point to stop at Dean-O’s for a pizza. I usually invite one or more of my cousins to come and meet me for dinner and we get to visit while enjoying some delicious pizza. One of my cousins (Rocky) worked at Dean-O’s for years and is still friends with the family who owns the business – he even met his wife while working there (Hi, Beth!)

My favorite is the Marie LeVeaux: “Blue Point” Crabs, sauteed with mushrooms, onions and spices

The Cajun Executioner is always a crowd favorite: Pepperoni, hot sausage, spicy shrimp, onions, bell peppers and a lot of jalapenos

The Cajun Canaille looks amazingly delicious, I’ll have to try that one the next time I’m in town: Shrimp, Louisiana smoked sausage, and jalapenos

Rocky also recommends the olive oil sauce with shrimp, tomatoes, spinach, garlic, artichokes, and red onions.
